Operating Efficiency Through Custom Engineering

A nuclear power plant in India operated by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) had experienced problems with five feed pump recirculation valves. The feed water pump recirculation application is arguably the most challenging control valve application in a power plant. With the competitor valves leaking significantly, CIRCOR Power & Process (CPP) proposed a solution that would eliminate the six mega-watt steam generating capacity loss caused by each of the five leaking valves.

Working with the customer in devising a control valve solution, CPP provided design details of a custom engineered valve with advanced multi-stage trim. CPP secured the order and supplied five replacement valves. These custom engineered valves have worked trouble-free for several years providing tight shutoff and excellent control helping NPCIL improve overall efficiency of the plant by a remarkable 4%.
